Beowulf and Grendel: The Hall Heorot Is Attacked By Grendel :: Beowulf Epic Poem Poems Essays
Beowulf and Grendel: The Hall Heorot Is Attacked By Grendel Beowulf is one of the greatest surviving epic poems. It was composed by Germanic people more than twelve hundred years ago. Although it is written in Old English, it deals with the Scandinavian forebears of the Anglo-Saxons, the Danes and the Geats. This epic poem concerns itself with Christianity, internal and external evils, and the warriors defeating monsters. The first passage of this story basically describes the building of Heorot. Hrothgar, decides to build a Valhalla-type of sanctuary for his warriors that he names "Heorot", or the Hall of the Hart (deer hall). This is in the first main passage of the story of Beowulf and this is the first place we find the theme of internal versus external evil. The passage implies that internal evil will ultimately destroy the hall, rather than being attacked by monsters: "The hall stood tall, high and wide-gabled: it would wait fierce flames of vengeful fire: the time was not yet at hand for sword-hate between son-in-law and father-in-law to awaken after murderous rage. "(Norton 28) This foreshadows the internal evil that will destroy the Danes. Another theme in this story is the theme of men versus monsters. This theme comes to light when Grendel is described: "The creature of evil, grim and fierce, was quickly ready, savage and cruel, and seized from their rest thirty thanes".(Norton 28) Heorot is a drinking hall, where warriors gather for parties and to get drunk. Heorot is a creation of civilization made by Hrothgar, for men to gather as a meeting place and a place to sleep. Hrothgar builds the biggest hall ever made. Grendel then attacks the hall for twelve winters straight, destroying more and more men every night with no remorse, and the men are afraid to sleep in the hall, thinking that maybe Grendel will eat them. Grendel is a ruthless caniball: "I think that if he may accomplish it, unafraid he will feed on the folk of the Geats in the war-hall as he has often done on the flower of men."(Norton 32-33) Grendel is a savage, and he ruthlessly eats his victims. The Hall Heorot is a drinking hall, and most of the warriors stand no chance against Grendel. They are drunk and are not able to attack Grendel.

The Cinema Effect: Illusion, Reality, and the Moving Image Matthew Buckingham: a Man in the Crowd
A Mirrored Image of Reality Realism is a realm of art that focuses on an individualââ¬â¢s perspective of the real world through the use of varying mediums. In historical times artist have always and everywhere sought to expand the subject matter of their work as well as the media in which they work. It would be accurate to say that the history of political suppression of the arts from Egyptian times to Byzantium to Nazism and Zhdanovism is a manifestation of attempts to limit or abolish expansion of artistic subject matter or new forms or styles. The drive to break out of the boundaries of conventional representation arises from the need to express new experiences and perspectives. And as innovations in artistic media reflect parallel technical discoveries and inventions, so also does the drive to expand the horizons of subject matter reflecting fundamental changes in social relations, social needs, and social values and objectives. In the ââ¬Å"Cinema Effect Illusions, Reality, a nd the Moving Imageâ⬠exhibition the various artists seek to create works that integrate cinema into our perceived notion of reality.Amongst the artists featured in the exhibition is Matthew Buckingham. Matthew Buckingham does a twenty minute film based off of Edgar Allan Poeââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"The Man in the crowdâ⬠also the same name of his film. Edgar Allan Poeââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"The man in the crowdâ⬠is a narrative and not an actual film. Buckingham after reading the narrative was struck with how the story could be a metaphor and paradigm for the question of nonfiction filmmaking itself, Buckinghamââ¬â¢s film is a silent film produced in black and white. There are many parallels with Poeââ¬â¢s narrative and Buckinghamââ¬â¢s film. Buckinghamââ¬â¢s film provides the visual aspect of Poeââ¬â¢s narrative. But, Buckinghamââ¬â¢s film is more contemporary, he changes the setting of the film from nineteenth century Paris to that of modern day Vienna. Poe didnà ¢â¬â¢t know London and details are borrowed from Dickens, Poeââ¬â¢s London sounds more like New York versus nineteenth century London. The details that Poe uses come from a review that Poe did of a story by Dickens.Poe fictionalizes the story by saying, ââ¬Å"they covered and crossed the edges of the cityâ⬠which would have been impossible to do at that time, his description sounds more like modern day Vienna . With Poeââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"The man in the crowdâ⬠one man is following a complete stranger but it is unclear whether or not the follower is ever aware that he is being followed or if he ever acknowledges the man that follows him; the difference with Buckingham is that he adds another character, he introduces the camera as a character in the film.Edgar Allan Poeââ¬â¢s story is from one mans point of view, a man sits at a coffee shop and watches people walk by and describes them, of the people he sees walk by him he is intrigued by an elderly gentleman who walk s by him, and then the man in the coffee shop begins to follow him. A man simply becomes interested in another mans manner and then he commits himself to following him secretly for a twenty-four hour period in hopes to learn something about the man . In this time frame, the elderly gentleman goes through out London in a distorted fashion going from one place to another in no particular path or reason.Matthew Buckinghamââ¬â¢s version begins with a young man dressed in a black t-shirt and dark colored pants in a cafe. In is the only portion of the film where there is some dialogue, which is heard. The young man sits at a table with a large window that pears into the downtown area of Vienna, there are many people that walk by him and catch his eye. While he sits an older man dressed in a suit walks by and catches his attention. From this point on the young man begins to follow the older gentleman in the suit.Throughout the duration of the film the younger man secretly follows the ol der gentleman. The older gentleman does not appear to sense that he is being followed, the man go to various places, there is no clear destination a parallel with Poeââ¬â¢s story but the older man of the two does not appear to be disoriented in any way whereas in Poeââ¬â¢s story the man is intrigued by the older man because of his distorted state. In the film most of the scenes only feature the older man, there are very few scenes where the man walks around crowed areas and spaces allowing the viewer to only focus on this man. There is one part in the film where the man being followed acknowledges his follower, the men are both walking through what appears to be a walking through a bush garden, at this point the man in the suit starts running as if he realizes that someone is following him, but he never turns around to acknowledge the man following him from this point on the man in the suit has disappeared from the film but he is then show in another scene. In the following sce ne this is the first time that the younger man is introduced in the film.Throughout the film only the back of the man in the suit is seen we never get a full view of either of the men, now, in this scene the camera is introduced as another character in the film. Before this point in the film is was ambiguous to know whether the younger man was also the camera guy but know it is clear that he is apart of the film as a character. The following scene begins to follow the man in the suit again but this time the viewer is able to get a closer view of him. Both men stand right next to each other and the angle of the camera shifts between the two men. There is a shift in the film the older man becomes a little more unaware and disoriented as the film continues. The man in the suit begins walks into a crowded area and he looks as if he is trying to find someone or something, at this point both men are close enough to each other to the point where they can physically embrace one another. The older man is preoccupied in his thoughts that he literally brushes past the other man and leaves the building they are in quickly.Transitioning in the film the older man goes to a train station and he at this point appears very disoriented and confused he walks in the station and looks as if he is going to board one of the trains but stops himself and leaves. At this point the man is back outside and the focus shifts from the older man as people walk in front of him and he seems lost within the crowd, night falls and the man is becomes the focus again and he continues to walk aimlessly. He then goes into a bar and he is amongst the many people in the bar, once he leaves it is completely dark and the film ends. This film exemplifies a type of realism because it depicts a realistic aspect of everyday life without exaggeration. The actual film is based on one man; the film follows him throughout one twenty-four hour period. The only unrealistic aspect of the film is the film itself, tha t someone is secretly following another person. The mans actions in the film follow everyday activity. Buckingham created a film that even allows the viewer to be superimposed within it. The film is displayed from two projectors. The projector is freestanding and has the appearance of a window, just like that of the window in the cafe where the film begins. So once we superimpose ourselves in front of the projector we are now apart of the film. The film becomes real and apart of the viewers reality because even the viewer can experience what is going on and be apart. The viewer now takes the role of the camera or the person following the man and experience what is going on. Also the man in the crowd is a relatable character we can all identify with the man in the crowd. The man that was followed was chosen randomly, he had no idea he was being followed and he had no distinguishable traits that would make he an obvious candidate. Buckinghamââ¬â¢s film is similar to a performance by Vito Acconci.Vito Acconci does a performance similar to that of what Buckingham does in his film whereas Acconci follows a man around without his permission. Both artists push the boundaries of what art is and its interactions with life and its reality. Both artists with their work blur the line of artist and the perceived audience/subject. These works can be classified as avant-garde and how they move away from the considered standards and characteristics of art and what it should be art without a specific form and directed perception. In this same manner Matthew Buckinghamââ¬â¢s film is similar to the photos of Jeff Wall.Jeff Wall uses photography to capture the different aspects of our reality and perceived real life. One of Jeff Wallââ¬â¢s photos is ââ¬Å"A view from an Apartmentâ⬠, in this photo Wall depicts an ordinary scene amongst two roommates, but he has altered the photo slightly to make the photo appear more realistic, he uses this image to depict two differ ent aspects of our reality. His work like that of Buckinghamââ¬â¢s discusses our social ideas of the world. Like that of photography film is able to capture a moment as it happens, with technological advances in both there is the ability to go back and change or manipulate the imagery to something else. With both artist they are able to make their art appear as if it were natural and unchanged. Buckinghamââ¬â¢s film appears natural and organic without any manipulation, but the characters of the film where all aware of each other and Buckinghamââ¬â¢s concept and idea for this film thus making this reality artificial. There are interesting and informative accounts of art ranging from strict formalism to psychoanalysis, but that these had best be registered and tested against more general scientific theories of human society and culture. When this is done, the content of the work of art can be related to the means of scientific, realistic and empirical theories of culture and so ciety. This film addresses social concerns within society. The concept of the film and the film itself push the boundary of what is socially acceptable as art. Buckinghamââ¬â¢s film does push the boundary of what is socially accepted for him to follow another person without their permission and to further document this as a film.

Health care challenges Essay
Our country is set to face a new way of managing health which could potentially change the environment on how nurses deliver care. As our nation prepares for the implementation of Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, nursing as a healing profession has to be open to what the future of health management holds. The goal is to have all registered nurses reach a high level of understanding and acquire tools necessary to provide the best possible way at a low cost. It is both moral and professional obligation of our leaders to ensure that highly competent and well trained nurses are available throughout this transition. To achieve this goal, nurse educators are the key players to train both novice and seasoned nurses to the change based on the new policies and evidence-based research. However, our Nurse Educators are overwhelmed with their current workload hence causing faculty shortage in the country. A recent study published on 2011 aimed to explore the relation of nursing faculty shortage to their workload, determine if there are evidences that the faculty workload is not equitable and the implication/effect to the nursing research and nursing academic. According to this study, there are multiple factors that influence the nursing faculty shortage such as lack of interest from the nurses to try academic careers, time spends to clinical practice defers pursuance into academic positions, low salaries, high educational costs, nursing education dissatisfaction and most importantly low institutional funding for additional nurse educator positions. Nancy Falk stated in her article that ââ¬Å"despite current critical shortage and growing demand for nurses and nurse educators, federal funding falls far short of addressing these healthcare workforce challenges. Workforce projections suggest that the US will face a shortage of 285,000 nurses by 2015 and 500, 000 by 2025.â⬠(Mason, Leavitt & Chaffee, 2012, p 58). Also, American Association Colleges of Nursing reported on 2011-2012, that nursing schools turned away 75,587 applicants who are qualified for baccalaureate and graduate nursing programs because of inadequate nursing faculty including clinical preceptors. These challenges ultimately impact the future of patient care if not addressed. Faculty leaders must work in partnership to create a strategy that will help prevent further faculty shortage by focusing on balanced faculty workload to avoid burnout. This article emphasized on the continuous support by government officials especially adequate funding to nursing education. AACN is allocating its resources to protect federal funding for academic development programs, identify strategies to prevent nursing educator shortage. Additional solution is to create a mentorship program for nurse faculty. This strategy was confirmed by various literature and studies to promote nursing faculty recruitment and retention. Mentorship brings encouragement and direction to clinical educators who are new to the role and prevent burnout. Health care system will be lost without nurses in our society. Statistic shows that there are currently 2.9 million nurses in the United States but nurses with special skills such as in education is extremely needed. Nurse Educators, in some ways, affect the lives of everyone. It is through this role where highly competent, compassionate healers such as nurses are produced. ââ¬Å"The future of the nursing profession depends on a steady supply of nurses to provide the quality care to patientsâ⬠(Cowen & Moorhead, 2011, p. 60)

Goldingââ¬â¢s representation of the deaths of Simon and Piggy Essay
How is language used to describe events? Discuss the link between these sections and characterisation of the two boys earlier in the novel. From the beginning the reader can tell that Simon and Piggy are set apart from the rest of the boys. Both their psychical and mental attitude to living on the island is different to the other boys on the island. It is ironic that all the children will physical defects die. The first death is of the littelun with the birthmark. Later Simon and Piggy die, all three of these characters have defects, Simon is epileptic and Piggy is asthmatic, overweight and wears glasses. This makes the characters seem unique or it could also simply mean that they were not strong enough to survive on the island. However their characters make them see more special rather than weak. It is also ironic that Piggy, the one with the most deficiencies dies the most violently. The first time we meet Simon, he is in his choir robes. He faints on the beach because of the heat and Jack mocks him. We know he is delicate. He has epilepsy. We find out about Simonââ¬â¢s appearance, which also highlights Simonââ¬â¢s characteristics: ââ¬Å"He was a skinny, vivid little boy, with a glance coming up from under a hut of straight hair that hung down, black and courseâ⬠He is helpful and works for the good of others; he is the only one to stick with Ralph to make the shelters. He is kind to the littluns and finds fruit for them. The others recognise he is ââ¬Ëdifferentââ¬â¢ to them in some way. Ralph frowned. ââ¬ËHeââ¬â¢s queer. Heââ¬â¢s funny.ââ¬â¢ Piggy says Heââ¬â¢s cracked. He has a secret place in a clearing full of flowers and butterflies and is sufficiently at one with the jungle to walk in it alone at night. He is at one with nature and he has no fear. He seems able to prophesy ââ¬â he is the first to suggest as if it wasnââ¬â¢t a good island and he tells Ralph, Youââ¬â¢ll get back to where you came from. He is the most perceptive about the beast. He says maybe there is a beast: ââ¬Å"What I mean isâ⬠¦ maybe itââ¬â¢s only usâ⬠. He is the only one to see that the problems on the island stem from the boysââ¬â¢ relationships with each other, not from an outside force. Yet no understands what heââ¬â¢s trying to say. When the Lord of the Flies ââ¬Ëspeaksââ¬â¢ to him this idea is reiterated: the voice in Simonââ¬â¢s head says: ââ¬Å"Fancy thinking the Beast was something you could hunt and kill!â⬠¦ You knew, didnââ¬â¢t you? Iââ¬â¢m part of you?â⬠He is killed just as he is about to reveal the truth. It is ironic that he is the only one who finds out that the ââ¬Ëbeastââ¬â¢ was a dead parachutist, but is denied passing on the message because the groups of boys think, in their frenzy, he is the beast. Nature cares for Simonââ¬â¢s body in death just as it had in life. ââ¬Å"The waves turned the corpse gently in the water. â⬠¦ Softly, surrounded by a fringe of bright inquisitive creatures, itself a silver shape beneath the steadfast constellations, Simonââ¬â¢s dead body moved out towards the open sea.â⬠ââ¬Å"Piggy was an outsider, not only by accent, which did not matter, but by fat, and ass-mar, and specs, and a certain disinclination to manual labour.â⬠Piggy has physical disadvantages because he is fat and asthmatic and is short sighted. Without his glasses, everything becomes a blur. He is very intelligent ââ¬â in Chp.1 it is his idea to make a list of names and it is he who realises that no adult knows the boys are on the island. Later he suggests making sundial and hats. Ralph recognises Piggy could thinkâ⬠¦ Piggy, for all his ludicrous body, had brains. However, he does not speak as grammatically accurately as the others: ââ¬Å"How can you expect to be rescues if you donââ¬â¢t put first things first and act proper.â⬠Perhaps this is to suggest he wasnââ¬â¢t as well educated as the others and that he is not from the right class of people to be a successful leader: at the time the novel was written, most power was still in the hands of the middle and upper classes. He is embarrassed by his nickname, and he behaves with dignity when Ralph betrays the name to the others. We never know his real name. He is kind and considerate to the littluns like Simon. He helps the boy with the birthmark talk about the ââ¬Ësnake-thingââ¬â¢ and helps Percival talk about the beast. He is later often left to care for them when the others are exploring and hunting. He has the most mature attitude of any boy on the island. He scornfully sees the other boys: ââ¬Å"Acting like a crowd of kidsâ⬠. Piggy is pragmatic. When Simon dies, Piggy tries to convince Ralph there was nothing they could have done: ââ¬Å"It was an accidentâ⬠¦ and thatââ¬â¢s that.â⬠Like Ralph, he believes in civilised values and clings to what creates order: ââ¬Å"I just take the conch to say this. I canââ¬â¢t see no more and I got to get my glasses back.â⬠He shouts, ââ¬Å"I got the conchâ⬠when they go to the fort to confront Jack, to try to show Jack that he has a right to be heard. Piggy and the conch are destroyed together by the rock Roger levers. Thus, intelligence and the symbol of authority are ââ¬Ëdeadââ¬â¢, so we know that there is nothing left to stop Jack gaining full control. At the end, Ralph mourns the fall through the air of the true, wise friend called Piggy. Simon and Piggyââ¬â¢s deaths have a lot to do with their personalities and their life on the island. Simonââ¬â¢s death is caused by the other boys getting out of control, ironically itââ¬â¢s the first time that Simon tries to communicate properly with the group but he still isnââ¬â¢t able to. Simon and Piggyââ¬â¢s death are very different. Simon, is killed as part of a ritual that the boys create in their frenzied dance, itââ¬â¢s not premeditated or planned in any way, but is committed as a group act when all the boys are in a weird sort of hypnotic state, in doing their dance, they have abandoned all sense of being civilised and human, and just gone along with their dark side. As Simon was closest to nature he is lucky enough to be spiritually taken away by the sea. At least before he dies he discovers the truth behind the island. With the death of Simon the boys are one step nearer to barbarity. The murder of Simon is particularly horrific because it involves all the other boys ââ¬â they get caught up in the frenzied chant: ââ¬Å"The crowd â⬠¦ leapt onto the beast, screamed, struck, bit, tore.â⬠Also, even Piggy and Ralph join in, so Golding is showing that the possibility of doing wrong when in a mob situation is not confined to the bad characters. It also helps continue the religious allegory in the book. Simon is often associated with Christ or a saint. He has come down from the mountain to bring good news, that they have nothing to fear. Like Christ and so many saints, though, he is not thanked or welcomed but killed for trying to help. Even though Simonââ¬â¢s death was quite brutal his body is carried away in a very spiritual and he appears like an angel: ââ¬ËSimonââ¬â¢s coarse hair with brightnessââ¬â¢ Golding makes out that Simon is an angel and has a halo around his head. This again contributes to the religious allegory in the book. The world is also mentioned making Simonââ¬â¢s death seem something that has affected the whole world and not just something that can be limited to a group of savages. From the beginning of the chapter you can sense the atmosphere because the weather shows how the boys are feeling. The boys are ââ¬Ëflinchingââ¬â¢ and the term ââ¬Ëstrokeââ¬â¢ is used which shows that something violent is about to happens. The rain starts of very light but as they are killing Simon a storm breaks out signifying that they are releasing their anger. In a way Simon deserved his special ending because of the way he was being portrayed as the beast and the fact that they were calling Simon ââ¬Ëitââ¬â¢. Simonââ¬â¢s death brings the chapter to a nice end and brings some significance to his death. Where as with Piggy his death is very short and is in the middle of the chapter and then pushed aside and then the rest of the story carries on without care. Piggyââ¬â¢s death is him fighting for what is right, but unfortunately heââ¬â¢s fighting savagery not rational human beings any more. The choir has turned into a bunch of painted ââ¬Ëhuntersââ¬â¢ who do exactly what Jack tells them. It is Roger who kills Piggy who is described as a ââ¬Ëbag of fatââ¬â¢; just before the rock actually hits Piggy, though, Golding says he is ââ¬Ëholding out the talisman, the fragile, shining beauty â⬠¦ the shellââ¬â¢. This shows that Piggy is the guardian of the thing that the conch stands for, right, justice, freedom of speech and order. The actual description of Piggyââ¬â¢s head smashing on the square red rock is rather grotesque and gruesome and is seen very much as a child would describe it. His legs and arms twitch ââ¬Ëlike a pigââ¬â¢s after it has been killed.ââ¬â¢ It is ironic that the conch should almost ââ¬Ëdieââ¬â¢ the same time that Piggy does. At this point all sense of control and civilised behavi our has been shattered. Piggy is killed partly because Roger realises he can hurt somebody; can exercise power over another living creature, without being punished for it. At the start of the novel Roger is throwing stones at some of the little ones. At that point he is still too conditioned by his past to actually throw to hit the children. By the end the restraints of civilisation have disappeared and he feels free to do as he likes. Piggyââ¬â¢s death is described in a child like manner where Golding uses words such as ââ¬Ëstuffââ¬â¢ and this is ironic because Piggy was the most adult like on the island. Unlike Simon deaths Piggyââ¬â¢s is quick and graphical. Simon and Piggyââ¬â¢s death can also be similar because both of them didnââ¬â¢t have time to say what they wanted to: ââ¬ËPiggy, saying nothing, with no time for event a gruntâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬â¢ Piggy tries to get the message across that the conch is still important and that rules are still important. Simon wanted to tell the truth about the beast about how they didnââ¬â¢t need to be scared anymore. Both of these were vital messages that could have saved the boys from their savage behavior and could have saved the lives of Simon and Piggy. The difference between Simon and Piggyââ¬â¢s death is that Simonââ¬â¢s death was seen as an accident that the whole group was responsible for whereas Piggyââ¬â¢s death was caused on purpose and was caused by one singled person, therefore making it seem worse out of the two.

Modus Operandi Essay
Modus Operandi is a term used in a criminal investigation to describe a way in which a defender goes about committing a crime. Usually it defines a pattern of activities driven by the offenders, thought and behavior processes, before, during, and after the crime. It is also used in criminal profiling, where it can assist with obtaining clues regarding an offenderââ¬â¢s psychology. It consists of examining the actions used by the offender to execute the crime, prevent its detection and/or facilitate escape. (Vronsky, 2004)A criminalââ¬â¢s MO pertains to facts gathered from a crime scene, giving investigators insight into how, when and where the crime was committed. For example, a criminal may use a particular weapon or focus on certain type of people, time of day, or a particular neighborhood. All which support his modus operandi. The signature is the way in which a criminal leaves his mark on the crime scene. This can include, posing or branding his victim in a certain way or carrying out his crime in a manic obsession such as torture of disfigurement, using props and/or securing souvenirs such as clothing, to relive the crime. An offenderââ¬â¢s signature alerts profilers to the emotional and psychological aspects of the offender that are the driving forces of an offenderââ¬â¢s crime.(Keppel,1997) Signature behaviors suggest clues regarding a criminalââ¬â¢s past, personality, emotions, mental state and intelligence. Criminal psychological profiling is an investigative tool utilized by experts to examine details of a crime, in the attempt to categorize, understand and predict the behavior of certain type of offenders based on behavioral clues they provide. Criminal psychological profiling is also referred to as ââ¬Å"criminal profilingâ⬠, ââ¬Å"criminal profilingâ⬠and ââ¬Å"behavioral profiling.â⬠Criminal profiling is a behavioral composite of the unknown, put together after analyzing the crime scene and other important information pertaining to the crime. This can include the autopsy report, autopsy and crime scene photos, as well as initial police reports. Also included in criminal profiling, is a detailed analysis of the victim. (Douglas, et al, 1992) Additional data, such as geographical areas beyond the immediate crime scene, the method of which the offender traveled to and from the crime scene and the relevant aspects of the residential location of the victim are also examined. In addition, the relationship between the perpetrator and the victim is also analyzed. Criminal profiling is not necessarily useful in every case, yet in some cases, it can assist with narrowing down the search for an offender when used in repeated crimes committed by a specific offender, such as serial rape or murder. Knowledge gained from profiling, can aide in the interrogation process of an offender and can assist with identifying and protecting potential victims before the perpetrator gains the opportunity to offend again. Although there are many opponents against utilizing the criminal profiling techniques, the goal of criminal profiling is to deduce enough behavioral, personality and physical characteristics about an offender so that she or he may be apprehended. (Berg, 2008) Several FBI special agents have written books noting their positive experiences with utilizing their skills of a criminal profiler.FBI profiler, Robert Ressler, assisted with popularizing the field of profiling. His book, Whoever Fights Monsters, has often been credited with creating much of the publicââ¬â¢s fascination with psychological profiling. Berg, B. L. (2008). Criminal Investigation. Introductory economics and finance - Essay Example In USA, almost two thirds of the total production is consumed by the individuals for personal use whereas only one third is consumed by the governments. The free enterprise believes that the private ownership is the best form of the economy because it is able to operate more competently than its counterpart. They believe that when the economic forces are free to act, the supply and the demand of the product intersect to arrive at a competent price. At the same time, this intersection of demand and supply predicts the quantity of production. When the consumers demand more of a product then the economy is producing, the price of the respective good increases. This chance for profitability calls in for more organizations to produce the similar good. At the same time, when the supply of the good in the economy is more than the demand, the price falls as a result. Most of the organizations exit due to the decreasing profitability. Therefore, the market economy operates efficiently followi ng the market forces and reflecting on the wishes of the people (Samuelson, 1998). But there is too much freedom with no regulations that causes the problems and does not make it s viable form of economy for the allocation of resources. On the other hand, the socialist economy is more portrayed by the high state ownership and central planning. The economists believe that this form of the economy is less efficient because it does not reflect on the market forces or the price changes. In this form of economy, the means of the production are owned by the state and the workers. It focuses on ones capacity to produce and wants. Basically, it aspires to provide for more equitability in the economy (Samuelson, 1998). With no economic benefit to the individuals, the people are less efficient and unstable. It also breeds incompetence in the economy that will cause it lose in the long. At the same time, the state benefits call for unannounced immigrants and cause stagnation in the economy.
