Some designers lean towards placing them on the left side of the page if they include elements that can help with navigation. Creating a custom sidebar can enable you to shake up your sites design and add unique elements depending on which page your users are browsing. Plus, it can make navigating through your site easier, which is always desirable.Best of all, setting up a custom WordPress sidebar doesnt need to be difficult, particularly if youre using the Custom Sidebars plugin. Movie analysis (broback mountain Essays

Movie analysis (broback mountain Essays Movie analysis (broback mountain Paper Movie analysis (broback mountain Paper The movie Broke Back Mountain depicted the love relationship between two homosexual men, Jack and Elisis. They initially met at a cattle ranch they were working and eventually a friendship formed. After a night of unexpected sex, their relationship shifted from friendship to romantic love. As closet homosexuals, they kept their romantic love secret given the stigmatization towards homosexuality existent in their community. When the work they were involved in at the cattle ranch ended they went separate ways and did not contact each other for a long duration of time. Four years later, they reunited regardless of being married and continued their romantic relationship for twenty more years through numerous series of upsets. Their first instance of intimacy was a notable scene in the movie given they slept in the shed close to the cattle and sheep to protect the later from potential attacks. Jack usually slept inside while Elisis outside and since it was cold night Jack invited Elisis to the warmer inside. While they were sleeping, Jack subconsciously pulled Elisis’s hand over his side and on realizing they were holding each other’s hand they were aroused starting intercourse shortly after. This scene portrays the Sexual Response cycle. Specifically from the Kaplans Triphasic model,(Kaplans, 1974 pp 1979) at first they exhibit high physical attraction towards each other and show a high desire to have sex after they realize they were holding hands. Next, they display the Excitement phase demonstrated by their physically aroused state characterized by fast breathing eagerness to have sex and taking off their pants. In response to the highly erotic situation and physical stimulation, they both get erections and Elis starts to have intercourse with Jack. After a short amount of time, they both behave as if they have reached orgasm and are ejaculating by making noises such as â€Å"AHH†. Although the last phase known as the resolution phase occurs after orgasm, the film does not show it and jumps to the next scene that is the sunrise. Likewise, the same scene is related to another concept in the book, anal intercourse. In the scene described above, Elisis takes off his penis and inserts it into Jacks Rectum. This type of intercourse needs lubrication to ensure comfort for both partners (Hyde, Delamater 2O1). Similarly, Elis uses his salvia to lubricate his penis and to moisten Jacks’ anus. They also use the rear entry position, which is one of the positions used for anal intercourse. This scene is different from research results on gay sexual techniques that indicated gay men used anal intercourse less frequently as compared to other sexual expressions contrary to public believe on gay sexual techniques. In addition, â€Å"homosexuals take their time† and are less goal oriented compared to straights. Moreover, gays use extensive nipple stimulation (MastersJohnson 2011) instead of the associated sexual expressions and techniques. The type of love they exhibit is related to the concept of Love Triangle (Sternberg 1986). According to love triangle theory, Jack and Elisis are in the â€Å"Passionate Love† region (Hyde Delamater 2O11) described as â€Å"closely matched involvement† type of love. Throughout the film Jack and Elis show high desire for sexual intercourse and are aroused by each other’s touch consequently showing lots of affection towards each other through actions such as kissing as well as padding. They also have subsequent dates in Brokeback Mountain where they meet to have sex. This aspect of their relationship is related to the â€Å"Passion† component of love. Throughout the movie, they show a high level of attraction and desire for sexual intimacy towards each other demonstrating a high level of Passion between them than intimacy and co mmitment. They also display moderate amount of intimacy as exemplified in the scene where Jack tells Elis he can not stop thinking about him and misses him a lot. Lastly they lack commitment in their relationships especially from Elis perspective whom disagrees with Jack’s decision to live together. For instance, Jack and Elis got into a fight at the Brokeback Mountain, where they met for the last time resulting to Jack telling Elis, â€Å"Ive been asking you to move in with me for the pas 2O years so we won’t be having this miserable life that we have right now† and again Elis rejects this decision. As a result their love triangle is closely but not perfectly matched. In conclusion, Jacks and Elis’s relationship had similarities with other typical relationships in regards to their expressions and techniques while differing in some notable aspects. The differences can be attributed to the homosexuality trait and associated stigma where they had to alter their pattern of relationship to avoid being stigmatized by the public such as limiting their dates in the mountains. Some of their expressions, techniques and the type of love were similar to heterosexual relationships while others dissimilar to homosexual relationships. For example, anal intercourse occurs less frequently in homosexual relationships but it happened regularly with them. Though they had good times in their relationship they had numerous challenges since they could not carry on the relationship as healthy and stable like other couples who freely live together and express love without a problem of becoming stigmatized. Another reason was mismatch in commitment especially from E lis who rejected commitment and only wanted to see Jack once month. This was probably the strongest reason they had an unstable relationship.

Harlem Renaissance Poets Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words - 1

Harlem Renaissance Poets - Essay Example Musicians, poets and actors started celebrating their black identity and demanding for equality in the society. Some of the notable Harlem Renaissance poets that excelled in creating new cultural awareness and identity include James Weldon Johnson and Langston Hughes (Reid, 2001). James Weldon Johnson (1871-1938) He was born in Florida in 1871, and studied English literature at Atlanta University. His intention of studies was to further the rights and interests of black people in the society. He wrote several poems that were refereed as the ‘Negro National Anthem’. He criticized the African American who had ignored their black roots to assimilate in White community. His poems mainly explore the need to form black racial identity and culture. In addition, he succeeded in securing leadership in the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and inspired the equal rights struggles of the Southern African Americans after he took a trip to Georgia (Rei d, 2001). He finally died in 1938. ‘Lift every voice and sing’ James Weldon uses this poem to strengthen the Black people in demanding for the end of racial segregation through demonstrating how past struggles against slavery and Jim Crow laws have been successful. His poem demonstrates double consciousness since he begins by asserting that ‘lift every voice’ (Weldon, 2013, L.1). He argues the African Americans to remain faithful and continue with their struggles until victory (Weldon, 2013, L.10). He demonstrates that the past slavery struggles have not been easy by asserting that ‘stony the road we trod, bitter the chastening rod’ (Weldon, 2013, L.11-12). His poem reminds the African American through ‘weary feet’ and ‘silent tears’ God has provided them with the ‘light’ and hopes African Americans will stay on the path (Weldon, 2013, L. 22-23). He cautions the Black people not to let their ‘hearts drunk with wine of the world’ and urges them to remain ‘true to native land’ (Weldon, 2013, L.33). Langston Hughes (1902-1967) Langston Hughes was born in Missouri and joined Columbia University for his higher education (Reid, 2001). The poet is one of the prolific poets during Harlem Renaissance due to his personal experience with inequality in the society. He travelled to both Europe and Africa and personally experienced the segregation in White dominated society. He often mingled his poetry work with black jazz music in order to promote the black cultural identity and self-awareness of the culture. ‘I, Too, Sing America’ Hughes demonstrates the racial segregation in this poem. The poem contains various aspects of double consciousness since it articulates the struggles that Black people face in the society. Hughes incorporates W.EB DuBoi’s beliefs of a fair society in the poem by asserting that ‘he also sings America’. The †˜I’ identifies the Black minority. He uses strong symbolism by asserting that ‘ I am the darker brother’ which translates that both White people and African Americans have the same source of humanity (Hughes, 2013,L. 1). Use of ‘They’ implies the ignorant White race. Hughes still asserts that ‘I laugh, eat well and grow strong’ meaning that Black people have their own cultural identity despite the segregation in

Civil Liberties, Habeas Corpus, and the War on Terror Research Paper - 1

Civil Liberties, Habeas Corpus, and the War on Terror - Research Paper Example The writ of habeas corpus demands that a prisoner be presented by whoever is holding him or her before the judge at the judge’s request. The writ of habeas corpus is an absolute protector of human rights threatened by wrongful detention and incarceration. As such, it was a strategy through which the founders of the nation promoted the separation of powers and maintenance of equilibrium between them. The writ of habeas corpus can be traced back to the English common law that checked on the excesses of the government against human rights. In the United States, the writ of habeas corpus has been questioned by various Presidents from Lincoln to Bush regime portraying elements of abuse of power. This paper explores the writ of habeas corpus in the context of war on terror and also explores if the move by the president is aimed at protecting the citizens or if it points to abuse of power because the president is the commander in chief. The Historical Evolution of Habeas Corpus Engli sh History of Habeas Corpus Habeas corpus has an ancient English history and seems to have predominantly originated from Anglo-Saxon common law (The Rutherford Institute, 2013). According to Shaw (2009), â€Å"Habeas corpus is an ancient remedy whose original purpose was to contest detention by the king† (Shaw, 2009, Para 7). ... One of its curbs on the sovereign’s power reads, in part, ‘No free man shall be seized or imprisoned†¦except by the lawful judgment of his equals or by the law of the land’† (Shaw, 2009, Para 7). The law in question was â€Å"The Great Writ† from which habeas corpus descended. The enforcement of habeas corpus became predominant during the time of Magna Carta and formed an essential component of the unwritten common law, which were expressly accepted. The Act of habeas corpus in the English law was enacted by the Parliament in 1679 (Rudolph, 2013). The English courts were empowered by this historic Act. As a consequence of the Act, the courts could now issue Writs of Habeas Corpus irrespective of whether the courts were in session or not. Despite being riddled with high levels of hypocrisy in 17th century, Habeas Corpus Act established itself as a major empowerment tool for human liberty in countering excessive exercise of power by the state. The writ of habeas corpus was expanded during 19th century to include individuals held by exclusive private processes other than the state (Rudolph, 2013). American Development of Habeas Corpus By the time Revolutionary War was taking place in America, the Writ of Habeas Corpus was already established in all the colonies of Britain and was perceived as a fundamental legal protection of civil liberties of citizens. In Article I, Section 9 of the Constitution of the United States, it is stated that â€Å"The Privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in Cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public Safety may require it† (Shaw, 2009, Para 7). Despite the fact that other common-law writs were recognized in the British Empire, only the writ of habeas corpus

When this poster is presented in a new form of the present generation where technology is exclusively used, it would be structura lly improved. This structural improvement would be from a hand drawing into a photo taken picture with at least a digital camera recorder. If not in form of a photo, it would take the form of mobile pictures where human being should be associated in the picture. Nowadays, if a poster on fighting pollution should be produced, then it should show an illustration of the effects of pollution on the environment. Culturally, people who are the main preservers of the environment from pollution should also be included. This is the political and cultural effects that politics would have on the poster above. The main reason is to make clear and sure that the theme of the poster is well conveyed to the society which is the intended audience. (b) The above poster is a poster created in the new generation of 21 century with fine artists showing out their talent. SOCIAL Peculiarities of the society such as culture, traditions, ethics, moral values, religion can make effect on an organization directly or indirectly. Chocolates are still a luxury material to the poor who work in cocoa plantations in Ghana. Chocolate consumers in poor countries are very less in number as people think consuming an expansive confectionary in a poor society is against their moral values. Veganism prohibits the use of animals for food, clothing, consumption of milk, egg, dairy products etc. Chocolate is a dairy product and thus chocolate is an abandoned food for Veganists. Iimplementation of new business regulations or taxation by the government can make trouble to the organization; in other hand favourable moves from the government such as relaxation of taxes will helpful for the organization. Companies should follow government regulations laws strictly; violation of these rules will lead the company to have legal issues with the government. Other legal issues such as patent laws, quality maintaining health will also affect the wellbeing of an organization. WEAKNESSES Cadbury products are pricier than local confectionaries. This will adversely affect the Cadbury products in poor economies some emerging markets. Public expectation of Cadbury products is very high; this fact may put the company in pressure. In UK production cost of Cadbury chocolates is higher as their manufacturing is done within the country. Errors in packing manufacturing processes cause microbial infections in chocolate products. OPPORTUNITIES Cadbury currently operates around sixty countries with very good business reputation. Company has the opportunity to widen their business in new markets. Mary Magdalen of Dostoevskys Notes from Underground Essay -- Notes Fr

Not for this I was born and then raised up. Unacquainted was I with such need. I once prayed to God, I was faithful. I once had a soul that knew peace. -from "Fallen," a Russian brothel song (Bernstein, 169) Prostitutes, women who sell their bodies for money, have been frowned upon since antiquity by most members of society. However, from as early as Rahab, the Whore of Jericho in the Old Testament who helped Joshua and his men regain the Promised Land, prostitutes have been portrayed as not only as sinners with the possibility of redemption, but women who lead men to salvation as well. This trend was particularly taken up in nineteenth-century Russian literature: "Elevated into powerful literary symbols by authors like Dostoevsky, Tolstoy..., prostitutes became female archetypes who either disillusioned the men with whom they associated or raised them to a higher plane of being" (11). Dostoevsky uses this idea of a "saintly prostitute" repeatedly in his works. The archetype that Bernstein claims he creates in based on the image of Mary Magdalen from the New Testament, the celebrated reformed prostitute who devotes her life to Christ. Crime and Punishment's Sonya Marmeladova, of whom "No tes from Underground's Liza is a prototype, performs the role of the penitent sinner who leads the way to salvation: the saintly prostitute Mary Magdalen. Despite common belief, Mary Magdalen is never referred to as a reformed prostitute in the four Gospels of the New Testament, though her actual role is just as pertinent to Dostoevsky's writing. In spite of the Gospels' tendencies to conflict with each other, they agree on four aspects of the Magdalen's life. First of all, she is one of Jesus Christ's female followers who is present at ... ...r one's sins and the perpetual chance of salvation. Works Cited Bernstein, Laurie. His attachment to her is brought into perspective by the arrival from Italy of Beatrice’s two cousins, Marco and Rodolpho. They have entered the country illegally, hoping to leave behind hunger and unemployment for a better life in America. Whereas Marco is a physically strong man with a starving family back home, charming Rodolpho is young, good-looking, blonde, and single, and he sings and dances; Catherine instantly falls for him. After three weeks, the pair have been dating, and Eddie sets about pointing out all of Rodolpho’s flaws to Catherine and Beatrice. He persistently complains that Rodolpho is â€Å"not right,† referring to Rodolpho’s effeminate qualities, such as sewing, cooking and singing. He is embarrassed by Rodolpho’s reputation for singing during work. When Catherine decides to marry Rodolpho, Eddie becomes desperate and begs his lawyer, Alfieri (who is also the narrator), to help him. However, he is told that the only way the law is able to help him is if he informs the Immigration Bureau of the presence of the two illegal immigrants. Due to his earlier assertion that â€Å"it’s an honor† to give the men refuge, he refuses to betray them. At home he continues to passively insult Rodolpho, and ends up getting Rodolpho to fight in a boxing match. In retaliation, Marco challenges Eddie to lift a chair from the bottom of its leg, when Eddie fails to do this, Marco picks up the chair with one hand from the bottom of its leg and lifts it above his head. This demonstates Marco’s superior strength, mentally and physically to Eddie. In the second Act, Eddie catches Rodolpho making love to Catherine, he sees Alfieri a second time. Eddie ignores his lawyer’s advice to let events run their course, and calls the Immigration Bureau. This betrayal proves disastrous: he comes back to learn that Catherine and Rodolpho are engaged, and Beatrice informs him two more illegal immigrants have moved into the upstairs apartment. When the Immigration Officers arrive and arrest the four immigrants, Marco spits in Eddie’s face in front of a street full of people. His betrayal of the two men causes Eddie to lose the respect of his neighbors, friends, and his family. Rodolpho is allowed to stay in the country due to his marriage, but Marco faces imminent deportation. Reluctantly, he promises Alfieri not to take revenge on Eddie (as is the Sicilian custom) and is let out on bail. In the final scene of the play, Eddie is shown to be furious with his humiliation and refuses to attend the wedding. He rejects Rodolpho’s offer to reconcile and refuses to get out of the house when he learns Marco is arriving. The play ends with a fight between Eddie and Marco, in a street filled with his friends and family. Eddie brandishes a knife and attacks Marco, who turns the blade onto Eddie, killing him. It is not known whether Marco actually intended to stab Eddie, and his reaction is not described. Eddie dies as the curtain falls, calling out to Beatrice.

This means that the system needs effective management in relation to overa ll brand strategy (Tucker, 2009, p. 23). The company has built a good strategy on concentrate production that it sells to different bottlers for production of beverages. This is not an easy task because the concentrate syrup is supposed to be supplied to more than 200 countries that it has a presence. All this withstanding, the company’s franchise model has come under pressure because of intensifying competition that has been necessitated by health conscious customers who want health oriented drinks. To be successful as far as operations and production management are concerned, the company has occasionally rejuvenated its core product line for long term sustainability. In this case, to expand its operations in new markets, it has relied on key acquisitions mostly in the non-carbonated drinks sector. This has been made with an aim of expanding its presence in the growing market. As a matter of fact, this has been coordinated by a strong and dedicated team for efficiency and su ccess. This means that it has increased its cooperation with key partners’ to streamline its operations. The company prides itself in upholding the quality promise that has enhanced customer loyalty all along from diverse and distinct customers (Coca Cola, 2011, p. 11). All this can be well explained from its concentrate production, bottling and product delivery that is unique in the market. Production management is evaluated through software that minimizes production downtime that can be costly to a global company like Coca Cola. This has therefore enabled the company to serve its market on a global scale without any problem which can be tiresome without such measures.Advertising We will write a custom assessment sample on Using Teams in Production and Operations Management specifically for you for only $16.05 $ 11/page Learn More The company’s approach to pricing has been very good because it has enabled its partners and bottlers to continue being committed to its true business ethics and values. All this withstanding, Coca Colas production and distribution system has been unique in the market thereby enabling it to realize different opportunities on a global scale. It should be understood that as much as issues might arise as far as the company’s operations and production management is concerned, it has been successful on a wider business scale (Plumb, 2009, p. 31). Coc a Cola’s use of teams in production and operations management Coca Cola’s use of teams in production and operations management has been reinforced by the fact that the company is the world’s largest producer and distributor of Coca Cola products. In this case, strategic management has been well managed by teams to ensure and enhance sustainability. Most of the company’s programs have been adjusted as time goes by to accommodate the changing business environment which has therefore enhanced the use of teams. Coca Cola uses teams effectively to reduce the impact of the changing business environment on the company’s operations management. Because it relies on a franchise system to do business, teams have been well coordinated to ensure that everything is running well and successfully. The use of work teams has mostly been embraced in production activities (Coca Cola, 2011, p. 15). This has been widely used in concentrate production because it is at th e core of the company’s success. For enhanced production, teams are embraced and given enough time to execute their ideas so long as they are in tandem with the company’s objectives and expectations in relation to set targets (Plumb, 2009, p. 62).Advertising Looking for assessment on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Proper production and operations management requires good teams for execution of strategies and this is what Coca Cola has capitalized on for success and long term sustainability. Management teams are competitively selected for each country to be in charge of operations thereby serving markets well. In this case, the company’s operations are divided into six operating units that are in charge of different markets (Coca Cola, 2011, p. 27). Most notably, these teams produce an attractive combination that has kept the company going as far as its operations are concerned. The use of teams has been capitalized on for individuals to make final and good decisions that will enhance productivity. Company’s ability to adjust Coca Cola is a global company and this means that it operates in a unique and competitive business environment. The recent global financial crisis posed a lot of challenges to the company based on the fact that it has operations in many countries around the world. The financial crisis affected incomes in a great way thereby compromising the company’s sales margins. In this case the company should be able to communicate effectively with its customers and employees on any changes that will be made to enhance sustainability. The company was not hurt by the global financial crisis in a broad way because it was able to adjust effectively through proper communication. It should be known that the company has the ability to adjust its approach to pricing which gives it an advantage to respond to emerging market needs and trends. This is because it only sells concentrate to its bottlers and not the finished product (Coca Cola, 2011, p. 35). The company’s ability to respond to any financial crisis is enhanced by its corporate social responsibility programs that have endeared it close to its customers. This means that customers have always stood with the company even in hard times. Employees are put at the heart of the companyâ€⠄¢s operations which means that they are always in contact with the top management which promotes communication thereby enhancing its ability to respond to different problems. This is because employees have felt that they are part of the company which implies that any problem will be shared together as a family. The company’s greatest strength is in its ability to respond to emerging market challenges which has been as a result of its experience in diverse and distinct markets (Coca Cola, 2011, p. 17). Creativity and problem solving skills have been instilled in employees to make them good ambassadors of the company’s products in different markets. This means that employees can be able to interact with different customers thereby informing them on the crisis without compromising products and services. Reference List Coca Cola. (2011). Three Wars essays

Three Wars essays There were many battles fought to make the United States what it is today. Many men sacrificed their lives, homes, and families to make America what we call our home sweet home. Three very important wars that made an impact of the future of this country were the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, and World War II. The outcomes of all of these wars defined the beliefs of our people and inspired the future directions of our country. The War that started it all was the Revolutionary War, which is also known as the American Revolution and the seven years war. It was the war in which the Americans gained their independence from Britain. Conflicts arose when the STAMP ACT, passed by Parliament roused a violent colonial outcry as an act of taxation with out representation. The TOWNSHED ACTS led to such events as the Boston Massacre, and the Boston Tea Party. The actual fighting started on April19, 1775, and ended in 1781. George Washington, who later became the first president of the United States, led the forces into battle. A tactic used in the battlefield was Guerilla Warfare. This is where men would not fight in the traditional style of standing in a line and waiting for their opponent to do the same and shoot, but to hide and ambush the enemy. The tactic was a great help in the victory of the Americans. In 1783 the Treaty of Paris was signed and officially ended the Revolutionary War. The independence of th e United States was finally clearly declared. Another war that also made a big impact on America was the Civil War. The Civil War was fought between northern and southern states from 1861 to 1865. The northern states were known as the Union and the Southern states were known as the Confederacy. The war grew because of economic and social differences between the North and the South, mostly over the issue of slavery. The fighting began with the attack of the Confederates on Fort Sumpter. Most of the battles took pl ...

Response paper - Essay Example In terms of genderization, feminist theories took a turn from studying female accessibility to technology, to examining the processes that developed technology as well as its female constitution. Presently, the feminist outlook on technology and the digital era is positive unlike its counterparts in 1980s reflecting a marked change in feminist theories of technology. De Lauretis seems to emphasize on the aspect of sexual difference throughout the paper as the concept was a prominent element of feminist writings during the 1960s and 1970s. Sexual difference is the idea that reinforces the differences between male and female, man and woman, as it creates a categorization that is an artifact, not of biology or sociology but of discursive constructs. De Lauretis has pointed several limitations of the term ‘sexual difference’ which includes its restriction on feminist critical thinking and recuperation of radical feminist thought to the bounds of one’s master’s wall (2). Then the author articulates the concept of gender as relating to technology as represented in various forms. McGraw’s paper on essentially â€Å"feminine† technologies explains rather novel concept of the term from a feminist perspective (13). Here, McGraw explains how certain female possessions such as bras, closets, collars, and bathrooms are â€Å"feminist† technologies because of their utility to women. While the word technology may engender necessarily male artifacts, McGraw explains how, a recognition of such things used predominantly by women will help us understand the technologies that were used previously. This will help us to expand our thinking of technology as not necessarily a piece of gadget that is electronic or digital but that which is of use to a particular section of the target users. In turn, this realization will help individuals to understand technology as not only comprising of male-oriented objects but merely anything that has been of
